Ok, we had costume parade today and, as usual, I have the best costumes! Our costume designer just loves me, apparently. *g* Yay!! So I have piccies of my first costume. It is a black and gold stretchy gown with a gold silk robe over the top. These pictures have me with the hood on from the robe but the director changed his mind and had me wear the crown instead...pictures of that to come later.

Anyway, the dress looks fabulous on me, if I must say so myself. The second dress is a simple black suppliant dress but it is slit up to mid-thigh on both legs. Hells yeah! So awesome. I'll post piccies of that one later this week.

The set looks totally awesome too. I'll try and get pics of that when I can. I'm really very excited about this show. I think this is the first time that the director is just really letting me go all out. w00t!! Very fun.

Okay for those not already watching. There is this new show in the UK called Merlin. It's not exactly the best show ever. The costumes and set dressings are kind of Renaissance Fairish. But I'm not watching for the costumes.

This is the slashiest show I've run across since Supernatural. The story is about Merlin who arrives in Camelot and shacks up with the castle doctor and stuff starts happening. The best part about the show is actually Merlin's and Arthur's interactions together. It's kind of hate at first sight but then Merlin has to save Arthur and there is banter and fighting and both guys are kind of hot. (though it took a few episodes for Arthur to grow on me) and I've seen 3 episodes already and it just keeps getting better and better.


And now I gotta get back to homework.

Today, I went to the Houston Browncoat Shindig and then a Mobile Read gathering. I had a blast at both events but I must say it was really neat meeting fellow ebook reading fans. :) I got to see some cool devices in person and I also met greyias who owns a Kindle, but letting it go, because she was really fun to talk with and she knows how to use Sony Vegas, macros in Word, and she's an incredibly talented writer too.

And now I gotta get some homework done. :)

Notes: First things first, while this is a Harry has wings fic, it is NOT a Vanterra or Veela fic. He's got wings for a totally different reason, but the reason will be reveled later on in the fic. You'll figure it out with Harry. I do have to admit that a lot of the ideas of how Harry looks, wingspan, weight, height, all that good stuff, comes from three different sources. One is Warren Worthington III, also know to X-men fans as Angel. Another is Carter Hall, aka Hawkman.

The third is a secret, because I'm using bits of that fandom for a crossover. Not any characters or anything but for historical background.

This is gonna be another slow story folks. I'll be updating about once a month. And yet again I ignore the last two books pretty much altogether. I may use some bits of, say, Severus's back story with Lilly, but there isn't any horcruxes and there was never any oath between Severus and Narcissa to keep Draco safe. Sorry folks, but the last two books aren't my favorite. For god's sake JK made Draco BALD! That's just so wrong.

For some reason, nothing turns me off faster in a porny fic than one character calling the other "Sir". I just closed a window to a pwp throwing that word around like it was going out of style.

To clarify, this is the use of "sir" that is a kind of removed-acknowledgement of authority or more clearly a military-esque form of address. So I'm partly thinking that my aversion to it comes from the fact that a quarter of my family has had military careers. The "sir, yes sir!" thing makes me pull faces (and close windows). But then, for some people in that situation, with lots of military relatives or having grown up in or served in the military themselves, the "sir" thing could be a turn-on.

What's interesting, or odd if you want to look at it that way, is that I like other things along the same lines, evoking authority through form of address, inspire a range of mainly positive reactions -- like calling someone "professor" if the term fits (hai Harry Potter fanfic and/or college fics/AU fics in any fandom! = om nom nom!) or "daddy" when there's a play with that sort of relationship. Or, hey, let's even go the feudal route and have some of that "My Lord" or other terms playing on either personally agreed-upon roles or AUs that put the characters in time periods containing state-mandated markers of rank, verbal and otherwise. Even terms like "Master" can work for me (again, in a personal context or in an AU context in which characters have to obey those sorts of codes for rank/titles) though for me that particular one can get seriously old fast when it's constantly used or that dynamic of the relationship becomes all-pervasive (too-straightforward/delineated master-slave stuff, in other words).

What's more, I am a big fan of the whole range of the D/s part of BDSM: so things like mindfuck or power plays or spanking or light bondage or fucking to comfort/calm a distraught character or even just dirty talk that emphasizes the power differential (though I'm not one to sign on for fics featuring dungeon-y elements like whips and chains and hurt-y toys). It's not always what I'm looking for, but when I am, yay, power plays like one person being even just a bit more in control, one character clothed while the other person is naked, telling the other character they are going to dominate them, or a bit more cranked up on the submissive stuff like one character kneeling naked, or just digging acts that put them on the receiving end, like characters who love giving blowjobs.

By the way, the fanfiction world should feature more characters that just adore giving blowjobs. I'm starting a petition.

So I don't get why "sir" bugs me so much. It's a funny thing, how we draw our lines in the sand.

Just woke up from the most delicious couch-nap ever. I'm a bit shocked Roomie let me get away with it, since she's a couch nazi and decided sometime in the last six years that the only thing more fun than hitting someone in the face with a pie is waking a sleeping Blue.

Visitins and con, OMG. My brain is total mush but no, not from the vacation. The pile of work waiting for me when I got back was epic. And oh, by the way, the deadline was arbitrarily moved from the 8th to TODAY. Thanks, management. I needed that.

C9 was awesome and let me crash on their couch for the non-Con (tee) portion of the week. In return, C9, I offer an air mattress to any of you or your sprawling network of cohorts that would like to be visitin Canada. Hanging out with the evil twin and J is a blur of delirious happiness. I know we ate food, shopped, tv-watched, Con-went and all around in general hung out but seriously. Pranced around in a skirt(!) and corset on Sunday, since Pond was all with the snappy cosplay (and we failed at staying up late enough to even consider the dance--invaded the room across the hall that belonged to these insanely cute (and insane) people we know to watch insane anime instead~).

Bunny bunny! It's the first of October, a month of many good things, including autumn leaves, new sweaters, yummy stews and baked deliciousness.

Another good thing about October? It is the month in which I'll be headed back to NYC (after more than a year away since we moved, omg, staying with my BFF NYC, and my list of things to do the few days I'll be there is four city blocks long) to see Daniel Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths in Equus!

But wait, there's more! If I order now, I'm also getting a free set of -- no, no, that's not it, I'm also going to be accompanied to the show by the lovely and vivacious dancetomato!

So excited. NYC, theatre, my fantabulous BFF A., a delectable dancetomato, and Daniel Radcliffe? I'm trembling like my niece Miss C does when someone gives her a present with a big ol' bow on it. \o/

Okay, I've been watching NCIS reruns today and I've noticed that CBS doesn't like the show as much as it likes their other cop dramas. I mean, all three CSIs, Without a Trace, Cold Case, Numb3rs ... all of the people get flack vests. Hell I've even seen Charlie in a bulletproof vest.

What do Tony and Gibbs and the rest of NCIS get?

The Song of the Treadmill by tabaqui (Sam/Dean) INSTANT REC!!! I loved the plot, character voices, use of magic and this was sad in many ways and I just loved Sam's fish out of water experience.


Our Own Shadow Hides Light by dotfic (Castiel/Dean) I really liked Dean's character voice and laughed at one of the lines. :) this story is short but packs quite a lot in it.

My computer is acting funny, I have to use the wireless network because I keep getting the network error message saying my cable is unplugged and then it'll say it's connected but 5 seconds later it would say it's unplugged again! This type of stuff drives me nuts. So I spent some time doing a system restore to the point before I installed the xp service pack 3 upgrade? But I think whatever it did fubared my settings.

But to be on the safe side, I'm adware scanning, spybot scanning, and anti-virus scanning. Tomorrow I'll find a working cable and make sure it's not my cable (which is the quickest and easiest way to rule the cable not working out)

Another thing that frustrates me is when I have computer issues my husband immediately blames me and accuses me of breaking my computer or going to unsafe websites.

Generally speaking I know when I'm visiting unsafe websites (this time I wasn't!) and my computer runs great 99.9% of the time so I have no freaking clue where he's getting the idea that I keep breaking my computer???? Sure on the last laptop after I installed Windows 2000 and couldn't really find the right driver for the network card...it didn't work but the rest of the computer ran like a dream and did rather well with Windows 2000.

So my husband gets negative points for making me feel less stressed out when I'm having computer issues. At this point, I don't think I'll ever tell him EVER AGAIN if something goes wrong with my computer because I really hate the blame game crap he pulls. it does not make me feel better, does not help solve the problem, and only pisses me off.

ETA: Found the problem. It was my Ethernet cable going out at one of the contact points. :( Plugged another one in and now it all works like a charm. But I really do need to pick up another 6 feet cable.
